About Foróige Big Brother Big Sister Programme Waterford
Foróige is the leading youth organisation in Ireland and has been working with young people since 1952. Our purpose is to enable young people to involve themselves consciously and actively in their development and in the development of society.
What's Involved
Currently not operating, but recruiting volunteers for when we re-open at a later stage.
Big Brother Big Sister is an internationally renowned youth mentoring programme that forms supportive friendships between a young person and an adult volunteer. Volunteers are asked to share one to two hours a week with their little brother/sister. The initial commitment is for one year. All volunteers are carefully screened and receive training and support throughout the friendship. The young people involved are aged 10-18 years and are from a variety of backgrounds, they would benefit from developing a friendship with a caring adult outside of their family. Volunteers and young people are matched based on common interests/hobbies and complimentary personalities. Together, you can decide on the type of activities that you would like to do; go for coffee, play sport, do arts and crafts, play computer games, listen to music....have fun!
