About Foroige - Sligo Branch

Foróige is the leading youth organisation in Ireland and has been working with young people since 1952. Our purpose is to enable young people to involve themselves consciously and actively in their development and in the development of society.

We work with over 50,000 young people aged 10-18 each year through volunteer-led Clubs and staff-led Youth Projects. Foróige currently operates in 26 counties in Ireland, with 614 Foróige Clubs, 160 Youth Projects, the Big Brothers Big Sisters mentoring programme, the Foróige Youth Entrepreneurship programme, our Youth Citizenship and Youth Leadership programmes.

Foróige works with all young people through our general services. Foróige Clubs, Foróige Juniors, Foróige Interest Clubs, Foróige Youth Cafés encourage young people to take responsibility for themselves and to be part of shaping the world around them while developing their talents, skills and abilities. We also work with vulnerable young people who require additional support through a full range of targeted services.

What's Involved

Currently we're not running due to the COVID19 crisis but if interested please hit 'register interest' below and we will contact you. We will definitely need volunteers when clubs resume.

Foróige TechSpaces are an exciting new form of club that inspire young people to learn to code new computer games, create animations and explore technology in a social, creative and relaxed environment. We are looking for volunteers over 18 years old to help set up TechSpace clubs for young people between 10 and 17 years old.

These volunteers will liaise with the TechSpace cluster coordinator to help create new connections to the local community, allowing her to meet with interested adults and young people who would like assistance in setting up a local Foróige TechSpace club. The setting up of the club will be the main focus of the volunteers along with paperwork and the day to day running of the club. The TechSpace club will meet weekly for about 60-90 minutes during school term time and will be the responsibility of the volunteer team.

Volunteers will:
-Meet with the Foróige TechSpace coordinator to discuss opportunities in their locality;
-Introduce the coordinator to local committee groups and schools;
-Register members and manage paperwork for the club;
-Undergo training and vetting process as per guidelines;
-Help the club out occasionally as a supervisor.

You do not have to be total techie to do this role and you don't need coding experience but you do need to be a intuitive computer user who will pick up the skills quickly during training. You will receive training in Scratch, BBC Microbits and possibly other technologies.
