Fighting Words Volunteer Tutor

Graffiti Theatre Company

About Graffiti Theatre Company

Graffiti Theatre company creates theatre for young audiences. We also work creatively with young people. We are establishing "Fighting Words Cork" which is a creative writing programme for children and young people. Our aim is to support young people in their creativity and to nurture them artistically as well their in social and personal development. We aim to do so in a fun, safe and inclusive environment.

What's Involved

Fighting Words volunteers are incredible people who do truly valuable work in supporting children’s creativity.

The Fighting Words program was developed by Roddy Doyle and Sean Love in 2009 in Dublin, to provide a space for and catalyse creative writing among children and young adults.

In the Primary sessions run, children create a narrative, which is illustrated and ‘published’ with them as the Author.

Our Volunteers play an essential role as tutors/mentors who support the program and enable it to be offered for free to the community and schools.

Volunteers need to be over 18, and there are many ways you can help as a Fighting Words volunteer. (Workshops take place Monday & Friday 9.30am - 12.30pm and the last Saturday of each month 2-4pm).

VOLUNTEER ROLES There are a number of ways you can help as a Fighting Words Volunteer:

Storyteller - Helping develop ideas with the young students to build a story together.

Illustrators - Children at the workshops love to see their stories come to life with illustrations.

Behind the scenes - Booklet Maker - Using Word on Mac computer.

General Helper - Setting Up the room and discussing with young people their ideas in a way that gives them confidence.

Song Writer / Musician - For new songwriting workshops.

They have all sorts of volunteers at Fighting Words – teachers, parents, writers, artists, university students - those who want to share their love of stories with children and help inspire the storytellers of the future!

>Workshops run for three hours including set up time. Mon & Fri 9:30 -12:30. Minimum 4 workshops.
